THE Federation Pie Company at Cardiff has snapped up another show prize.
Its traditional meat pie was awarded first place in the 2001 Sydney Royal Bread, Cake and Pie Show.
Company owners Colleen and Gary Elsmore, first-time entrants in the show, won the meat pie category.
Their chunky beef pie beat 11 other contenders.
`We have been telling all of our friends that we have won,' Mrs Elsmore said.
Mr Elsmore prepared the winning pie for judging at the Sydney Showground on Tuesday.
`As Gary says, it's his secret herbs and spices,' Mrs Elsmore said.
Fourteen judges assessed the pies on appearance, top, bottom, `mouth feel', flavour and texture.
The Federation Pie Company has won several awards, including The Great Aussie Meat Pie Competition in 1999.
Last year, it was crowned grand champion at Orange Bread Show.
Meanwhile, Tyrrell's Wines won Best Wine at the Sydney Royal Wine Show for its Vat 1 Semillon 1993.
Tyrrell's also received the Macquarie Bank Perpetual Trophy.
